GigaPoints Finds Average Credit Card User Could Be Earning an Extra $1,000 per year in Rewards

Startup recognized with prestigious Webby Awards nomination for Best Financial Services/Banking Site

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 26, 2021) GigaPoints, a platform that provides personalized credit card recommendations based on a user’s spending, announced new data insights today. The company found that its average user could earn $1,046 more in rewards each year by switching credit cards. GigaPoints data also shows that on average, users earn just 1.07% back on their credit cards.

“Rewards can really add up and a simple switch can mean a lot more money in your pocket,” said Erik Budde, CEO and founder of GigaPoints. “There are no-fee credit cards that pay 2% cash back on all purchases. Consumers who are earning less than that on their cards are leaving money on the table.”

The insights are based on anonymized GigaPoints user data. GigaPoints matches consumers with the credit cards that will earn them the most rewards—in points, miles or cash back. Users securely and privately link their credit cards to GigaPoints, which analyzes their spending and identifies the best cards for them. GigaPoints’ algorithms also estimate the annual value of those rewards.

The company’s data found that with a GigaPoints-recommended credit card, the average user could earn 3.0% back.

“It’s not consumers’ fault that they’re not maximizing their rewards—loyalty programs can be confusing and difficult to compare,” Budde said. “It’s not apples-to-apples. That’s why we created GigaPoints, to save people time and money.”

GigaPoints, which publicly launched less than a year ago on October 6, 2020, has also been nominated for Best Websites and Mobile Sites, Financial Services/Banking in the 25th Annual Webby Awards, the Internet’s highest honor. As a nominee, GigaPoints is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until May 6th, GigaPoints fans can cast their votes here

“Nominees like GigaPoints are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, executive director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 13,500 entries we received this year.”

“I am incredibly honored to receive a nomination of this caliber so soon after GigaPoints’ launch last year,” said Budde. “I would like to extend a big thank you The Webby Awards for the nomination, and to  the many talented people who helped us build GigaPoints.”

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, and honored in a star-studded, virtual show that will be available on demand. The celebration will be hosted by multi-talented actress, writer, podcaster, host and advocate Jameela Jamil. Winners will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches. Past 5-Word Speeches include: Steve Wilhite’s “It’s Pronounced “Jif” not ‘Gif’; NASA’s “Houston We Have A Webby”; and Solange’s “I Got Five On It.”
